Esse é o nome que se dá ao primeiro bloco de pedra ou alvenaria acima de uma fundação de uma construção. Durante uma cerimônia simbólica, a colocação da pedra fundamental significa o início efetivo de uma edificação.
A pedra fundamental, contendo inscrições como data e identificação do construtor, tradicionalmente é encontrada no canto nordeste da construção.
Com base nesse conceito foi criado o símbolo que representa a pedra fundamental da marca, ele aponta para nordeste. Além disso, ele representa o sinal de aspas, podendo ser utilizado na comunicação da marca destacando aquilo que ela diz e faz.
